When pressed on how, in the face of overwhelming evidence that socialism does not work, that it leads only to poverty, millions of death and destruction as evidenced by much of the past century, people can still believe in it, Milei reflected:
“Because socialism is a sickness of the soul worse than the very worst cancer. When it is implemented completely, economically, politically, you get 150 million deaths. The worst dictators of the past century, they were all socialist.”
So we should get oppose all socialism: Social Security, Medicare, the Post Office, the Military, the police, public health officials .... etc etc etc.? Socialism is a term that is often used without any clear definition. Communism as practice by the USSR, China. North Korea .... sure I oppose that. But blanket critiques of undefined "socialism" often do more to confuse than to enlighten.
Although our country is founded on democratic principles, it is a Republic. Currently stretched at its most significant test of resilience, this Republic is challenged with information overload. And as Jen pointed out, our human default is laziness when challenged beyond our capabilities. You could argue that all forms of government can succeed given the right circumstances. We are talking about people and their frailties. Tribalism, unfortunately, is the simplest form of government, and in a large group of people, democracy was what our founders found to be lacking. The big idea for our country to make the system work is to enforce the laws and not allow someone to bend the rules to their benefit. So, vote is the correct answer. Allow our system with its human frailties' to continue.
I think you need to dive deeper into your examples for context. Using snippets out of context to ostensibly demonstrate fallacies strikes me as misleading and disingenuous.
Ad hominem attacks ..... attacking your oppponent by labeling them a fascist .... are sometimes quite appropriate. What would you have called Hitler or Mussolini back in that time ..... (hint): fascists. If the shoe fits, you ouught to wear it, and you shouldn't whine about being called what you are. I would also add another logical fallacy: repeating and/or believing lies that are repeated over and over again, Dr. Goebbels favorite technique, which seems to have become a standard part of some politicians' playbook.
